Father Dougal Maguire
Father Dougal is played by Irish comedian Ardal O'Hanlon.
His character Dougal is portrayed as a very innocent,infantile,almost stupid priest.
Dougal is 25 and he pretty much depends on Ted for everything.He often gets annoyed with Ted because Ted treats him like a
24 year old.He sleeps in the same room as Ted and also sleeps in his favorite Irish green Jersey.
Dougal hasn't the faintest idea about religion and we have never actually seen him saying mass.Ted mothers him so much.We
once see Dougal going off to be a milkman for the day and Ted wraps him up in a scarve and tells him to keep warm.When Dougal
drives off on the little milk float we see Ted fighting back the tears as a mother would do when their child goes away from
home for the first time.
Dougal is addicted to Rollerblading and loves the Tv shows,countdown and blockbusters.This is very funny considering Dougal
has very little brain power to deal with day to day life never mind being able to answer questions from these brain taxing
television shows.
Dougal has a rabbit called Sambris,named after Pete Sambris.He originally wanted to call the rabbit Ted after his friend Father
Ted but after a big discussion with Ted he decides to call it Sambris.
Dougal is very frightened of women.He has no problem talking to Mrs.Doyle the housekeeper because he doesn't consider her
to be a real woman like the ones you would see on the Gladiators.He often hides behind a chair if a woman comes into the house
for fear they would talk to him and he wouldn't know what to say.
Ted gets extremely frustrated with him because he just can't deal with Dougals incompetence and infantile behavior.
Yes,Dougal is a big eejit but he is without doubt a lovable one...........
