Father Ted the Irish Tv show was established in 1995.The show was created by two Irish writers,Arthur Mathews and Graham Lenehan.
The show was set around Three Priests living on a remote Island off the west of Ireland, who had absolutely nothing in common
with one another.
The show centers around Father Ted Crilly the main character and hence the name of the show.
Although reports have claimed that Writers Graham Lenehan and Arthur Mathews originally pitched the show to RTE (the Irish
televison broadcasting network)and were turned down by the network, the writers have since put the record straight by saying
they were contracted by Channel 4 production company Hatrick productions to write the show so there was no way they could
pitch the show to another television network. They gave this information on an Irish Television talk show,Tuberty Tonight which
is hosted by Ryan Tuberty.
Lenehan and Mathews wrote three series of the show.It was a huge success and extremely popular amongst teenagers.
Lenehan and Mathews chose unknown Irish actors for the roles,in the hope of getting some Irish actors known across the pond.
Although the show is centered is portraying Three priests living off the west coast of Ireland, the show itself was actually
shot in England. All the interior shots were filmed over in England and the exterior shots were filmed in Ireland.
